Heart of Italy
30 June to 8 July 2012
Choosing the TourHello! I'm Elizabeth Moore from the Seattle Washington area. My daughter Lisa is from California. We took a tour by Rick Steves in the past and were ready for another. Because I had been reading novels set in either Roman or Renaissance times, I wanted to go to Italy to experience some of Rome, Florence, and the countryside. Lisa had both limited free time for a vacation and a strict calendar opening when that vacation could be taken. The Heart of Italy in 9 Days tour starting at the end of June fit all our requirements.

Tour summaryThis tour had all the expected Rick Steves' Tour qualities: a knowledgeable tour guide, great hotels (with air conditioning!), excellent city guides, safe roomy transportation, a mixed group of fun loving people, memorable group dinners, and many fun experiences.
As a group we saw all the big attractions yet had plenty of free time to explore on our own. In addition to the knowledge gained from our guides about the art and history of the areas visited, we had an informative wine tasting, an interesting pesto making demonstration, and a fascinating look at how a piece of alabaster could be turned into a bowl. |
My photographic styleI am not a photographer or a web master. I am a gardener, bird watcher, & enthusiastic novel reader. I was very ready to expand my limited knowledge of art – having studied science and math – and expand my incomplete history education. These things influenced the pictures that I took.
However, few pictures were taken as I was too involved in just being there.

Website overviewThis simple website tries to capture joyful moments and pleasant memories but it is not laid out in a day by day format. Instead the photos are grouped by: impressions of Italy via the five senses; a description of an invigorating walk in the Cinque Terre; suggestions for reading material; and a general summary of random thoughts.*
